Good morning 🌅
Happy Monday. Let’s chat a little. I wanna share some thoughts based off the recent post from Sav.finance, a finance instagram account, if you’ve not seen it - here.
(what i’m about to share is not on the YouTube channel, might not be in the near future too)
This interview was done back in August 2023 after they saw this video.
All the tips shared here, in my opinion, is timeless.
Start Working as Early as Possible
Live with a Balance Mindset between Saving and Investing
Track & Budget your Inflow and Outflow
Allocate your Money for High Interests
Start Investing Early (no matter how small)
Have Multiple Sources of Income
Keep your Eyes on the Bigger Goal
I started working full time with a salary of $2,700 and by the time I left, 3 years in, it was $3,700. Not much of an increase with the reason given that it was pandemic times.
I’ve always wondered to myself what was the meaning of life. Are we all just supposed to go through the “standard” route? Study hard, graduate from University, get a job, work till 65, retire, take care of our kid’s kids (if we even plan on having them 😅) and thats it?
I enjoyed my job but not enough for me to see myself doing it for the next 30 years.
In many ways I was lucky when it came to my first full time job. I had great colleagues and bosses, it was fun most of the time 😬. But bringing in an income after CPF of a little under $3,000 was too little for the dreams I had in mind.
Dreams… most would tell me my dreams were too big to achieve when all I wanted was to do something I truly enjoy whilst earning an income so that I can give more to the people who mattered most without thinking twice.
i think i’m scarred by my past of seeing how money destroys relationships. but beyond that.
You see retirement to me isn’t just relying on an Investment Pot or Cash Savings then staying at home, watching TV or even travelling to see more of the world.
Naval Ravikant, entrepreneur and investor said it best,
Retirement is when you stop sacrificing today for an imaginary tomorrow.
When today is complete in and of itself, you are retired.
When you finally find something you truly enjoy and it doesn’t feel like work to you.
When you can keep at it till the day you can’t anymore.
That’s what I think of retirement.
Is YouTube IT then?
Noooo. It’s not.
It was just something I tried and it worked to bring in an income but most importantly it had to do with personal finance which is something I love. Because each and everyone of us have different backgrounds, how we manage our personal finance is unique.
I want to meet more people, talk about personal finance, educate, help. As I grow myself I also want to help others grow. To achieve a life that seems too hard to reach but is possible with just 1% effort each day.
What about you?
Is this something that resonates with you? Reply to this email if you’d like, I’d love to hear from you.
What is next for me?
I want to be better at sharing my thoughts in video format. Right now, the content is pretty much facts based. If anyone of you have followed along on the channel, you’d realise that I convey my thoughts better when I write. Putting it into a Video is… hard…
I’m also going to expand my personal finance knowledge professionally so it helps with the content I put out on the channel. YouTube is something that I will continue doing for the unforeseeable future.
The eventual goal is to help others with their personal finance, educate, make informed decisions so they can focus and give time to the things that matter more in life, like creating memories with their loved ones, like chasing after the dreams they’ve harboured in their hearts.
For myself, the dream I’ve always had deeeeep down, has something to do with Tourism and Hospitality. Let’s see in the future. Things could change as I grow and try all sorts of things, but the overarching picture is that it’ll be personal finance related.
That is all from me this morning. I hope you’ve had a great weekend but most importantly, have a great week ahead! 🙂

“The pathless path has helped me see that quitting my job was never about escaping work or living an easier life, it was about using the gifts I received from my parents to benefit others.”
